Thoreau Hills has turned out to be a very sought-after neighborhood for buyers moving out of Boston and Concordians looking to move out of their starter homes. The search for a bit more space is often a reason to renovate or move. Capes, Ranches and Village Colonials are homes that can often be less than 1800 s.f. in Concord. Many buyers on their search for their first home end up in that portion of our Concord housing stock. I am thankful it is there and it certainly serves a terrific purpose. As the kids grow and hit their teen years, and as people get a little bit further down the road with their careers, many buyers who start with homes of the size mentioned above look to make the jump to a home that is between 2,200 and 3,500 s.f. My first house in Concord many years ago when my son Henry was just a baby and my son Julian was about 8 years old was a 1,000 s.f., 2 bedroom Ranch on Harrington Avenue in West Concord. We turned a mudroom into an additional bedroom and stretched our two bedroom home into a three bedroom home. The home seemed perfectly reasonable at the time, and after years of city living it met the needs of our budding young family. The house smelled of cigarettes from the previous owner and needed to be updated, but it was perfect for that period of life, and so our Concord tale began. Many houses later, I still think of that home as our starting place. I still think of that home today.
After a few years there I would have been the perfect candidate to get excited about my client’s home at 162 Border Road. I went to the Thoreau Hills neighborhood for more playdates with kids than I can count. It has always been, and still is, a bit of a rare commodity in Concord. Like kind homes on large lots that offer terrific privacy, typically with finished basements, that can get the homes to be around and over 3000 s.f. Many of these Thoreau Hills homes are larger today due to additions made over the years. It has always been a bustling neighborhood with neighbors chatting on front lawns, kids riding their bikes to a friend’s house and a Halloween stroll that is second to none. It is a good distance away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street.
The amazing and kind clients that have tasked me to sell their beloved home have enjoyed it for nearly 20 years. It’s simply time for them to move on, but what a legacy they leave. Renovations over the years include the kitchen, solar panels, bathrooms, electrical systems, gas conversion of a fireplace and so much more. I will let you experience some other surprises of this home, should you choose to take a look. The 3,110 s.f. includes about 850 s.f. of finished lower level space. The floor plan offers the logic of a traditional Colonial with four comfortable bedrooms and two and a half baths. All rooms are generous and comfortable and have wooded views that can be thoroughly enjoyed as the seasons change. Access to trails through the backyard make this lot feel larger than its half acre parcel. The tiled porch out back is dreamy and can be enjoyed by everyone much of the year. I assure you that this backyard is built for entertaining and between the screen porch and sizable patio there is more than enough room for the entire family to enjoy the outdoors.
If this home is in your price range, and you live on a street but not a neighborhood, I encourage you to take a look. You will not be dissapointed. The two car garage is spacious and is a terrific upgrade if you do not have one now. Did I mention the convenience of the location? Food shopping, the Thoreau Club and the West End of town are all nearby to enjoy. 162 Border Road may be just the home you have been waiting for! Give my office a call and we will get you in. Open houses are forthcoming so please feel free to swing by and take a look. See you when I see you.
